North Holland Landscapes
Documentary photo assignment for the province of North Holland.
In 1991, while living in Amsterdam, I proposed to photograph the flat North Holland landscape in all its stark bareness. Basic images, the focus on the land and on the artefacts brought in by man. Photographed mainly in the winter season and often under gray light, it represented a totally different image of the land than that so carefully maintained by the tourist industry.
