North Sea at Scheveningen Pier 2
In the second half of the 2010s, I became aware of a slight feeling of envy towards painters. In my immediate surroundings, I knew some who created abstract works with deep sophistication. Their work always seemed to have an anchor in reality, no matter how minimalist and abstract it appeared. It was as if they had bared their gaze and with this perspective, could 'represent' their observations in an essential impression.
These thoughts led me to the nearby North Sea, where abstraction could ultimately (perhaps?) also be achieved photographically, due to the limited materiality of water and air.
