Sandy dunes at Meijendel
Jealousy may be a strong word, but there is definitely some envy: I feel that painters can handle reality more freely and expressively than we photographers. Unrealistic use of color, playing with perspective, ignoring texture, compressing time, exchanging reality for abstraction; all of this is also possible in photography – but it quickly feels forced.
The latter is not a reason for a photographer to give up. That's why I focused for many years on introducing a (still restrained) form of visual poetry into my previously so realistic landscape photography.
